Chiropodists help patients eliminate foot pain, gain mobility, and maintain healthy feet. They treat sports injuries; common foot conditions such as bunions, heel pain, spurs, flat feet, hammertoes, neuromas, ingrown toenails, varicose veins, fungal infections, diabetic wounds, warts, corns and calluses. The practice of Chiropody is the assessment of the foot and the treatment and prevention of diseases or disorders of the foot by therapeutic, surgical, orthotic and palliative means. - Consult with patients and other physicians on how to prevent foot problems.
- Treat ulcers, foot deformities, skin and nail pathologies.
- Perform soft tissue surgeries to correct or remedy such problems as ingrown nails, clawtoes, hammertoes and infections.
- Prescribe therapies and perform procedures such as ultrasound therapy.
- Prescribe topical and oral medications.
- Prescribes or fits patients with inserts called ORTHOTICS that correct walking patterns and alignment issues.
- Treat conditions such as: bunions, corns, calluses, cysts, heel spurs, infections, ingrown nails, and plantar fasciitis.
A Chiropodist and or Podiatrist is a qualified foot specialist. Chiropodists and Podiatrists are primary health care providers, and are regulated foot professionals educated exclusively in the assessment and treatment of foot disorders.
